We’re updating the listing page to help sellers in the European Union (EU) easily provide prices per unit for relevant listings, to make it easier for them to comply with their obligations under EU laws. Based on our research and feedback from our seller community, we’ve developed easy-to-use functionalities that we think will lead to a great user experience for both Etsy sellers and buyers. Starting in mid-April, sellers will be able to add these details before they become visible to buyers on 1 May. Read on for to learn about the update and how to use it in your shop.
Price per unit
Now you can indicate the unit price of products sold by weight, volume, or measure, in addition to the selling price you already provide for the packaged volumes. Unit prices can be specified for products in the following categories: fabric, yarn, essential oils, fragrances, nail polishes, bath oils, body washes and soaps, and massage oils (with the addition of other categories later). For example, when selling pieces of fabric in specific sizes, a seller can specify a price per meter, which will enable easy price comparisons for buyers and help them make better-informed purchasing decisions.
The specification of unit prices is a requirement for sellers based in the EU set out in the EU Price Indication Directive. Sellers should choose to display a unit price for any product that is sold in bulk or packaged in a prescribed quantity.
How to use this feature:
- When creating or editing a listing, mark the checkbox that says “Show buyers a price per unit” in the Inventory and Pricing section of the form.
- Enter your item’s length, weight, or volume. If you already entered this information above in the item attributes part of the listing form it will already be reflected here. Your item’s unit price will be calculated automatically based on the standard unit of measure for your item’s category.
- Save and publish your listing.
If you offer variations of your item in different lengths, weights, or volumes, Etsy will automatically calculate unit prices for each variation based on the information you provide.
The unit price will then be visible to buyers within the EU in the following places: in the listing page underneath the item price, in the cart view, in the checkout overview page, and on the receipt Etsy emails to buyers.
