The only real description of Frodo's appearance is given only once by Gandalf in his letter to Barliman Butterbur, in which he is declared a "stout fellow with red cheeks, taller than some (hobbits), and fairer than most", with a cleft chin, a bright eye, and a perky personality. Although Frodo is apparently fairly stout before his journey, he seems to have lost a significant amount of weight on his trip from Hobbiton to Rivendell. Also, at a later point, Sam remarks that Frodo is "Too thin and drawn" for a hobbit. This outfit is based on the one worn by Elijah Wood in the Lord of the Rings films
The coat is made from brown herringbone tweed wool with brown cotton velvet collar and lapels. It fastens with 3 leather buttons, and has smaller, matching leather buttons to the rear. The coat has 2 side-straps to tighten the waist, and 2 arm-straps to tighten the cuffs. It is fully lined with a brown satin lining, has 2 front pockets, shoulder pads and a peplum opening to the rear. Reference to the alleycatscratch.com website was used in the construction of this coat.
