FINISHES
Raw/Unpainted: When the steel comes out of the factory it comes with a dull grey finish called "mill scale". Each piece will have a slightly different appearance and may show some character. This finish gives an item an industrial look. Note: without a finish, steel will rust and patina over time.
Clear Coat: Gloss finish. As mentioned above, the raw steel has an industrial look to it and may show some character. Finishing with a clear coat will retain that industrial look and will also act as a rust preventer.
Hammered Finishes: These paints have a hammered appearance with a gloss finish. The paints will also give the product a cleaner more consistent overall finish than the raw or clear coat options. They are a rust-preventive

All of the signs can be used both indoors or outdoors. Raw/unpainted steel will rust and patina over time. Some folks prefer this because of its rustic look and the character the piece will develop over time. As for all of the other finishes, the paints are top quality, strong and durable and designed to last for several years. We've had some pieces of metal in our backyard since 2008 and they are still in great shape.
