What is ink painting?

Ink wash painting is a technique that uses ink—traditionally black—with brushes to create stylized images to express an impression or capture the spirit or essence of the painting ’s subjects rather than attempting realistic imitation. Ink painting was invented and flourished during the Song dynasty in China, and was introduced to Japan in the 14th century.
